The Cincinnati Reds are hiring Terry Francona as manager, league sources said Thursday.
The move comes after the Reds fired manager David Bell on Sept. 22 amid a 76-81 record. Cincinnati finished the season at 77-85 with bench coach Freddie Benavides serving as the interim manager for the rest of the season.
Francona, 65, returns to managing after retiring from the Cleveland Guardians at the end of the 2023 season. He managed the Guardians for 11 seasons and has also managed the Philadelphia Phillies and Boston Red Sox.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
