Marcus Rashford set to miss Liverpool trip due to illness – Ruben Amorim

Ruben Amorim says Marcus Rashford is set to miss Manchester United’s Premier League match against Liverpool on Sunday through illness.

The England international, 27, returned to the squad for Monday night’s visit of Newcastle United but did not feature from the bench in the 2-0 defeat.

Asked whether the forward could play a role at Anfield this weekend, Amorim said: “It’s the same situation, at the moment he is ill. He is not training.

“We will see in the future but this is like a normal player, then I make a selection. So, it’s the same. I think he is going to be out, this week he is out.”

Rashford had missed the previous four games in all competitions after first being left out of the squad for the derby win over Manchester City on December 15.

Following his absence against City, Rashford said he was “ready for a new challenge” and is prepared to take the “next steps” in his career.

Rashford had featured in all 15 of United’s Premier League games prior to his omission at the Etihad Stadium, starting 12 of them.

He last played for the club in the Europa League victory away at Viktoria Plzen on December 12.

He has played 24 times in all competitions this season, scoring seven goals and adding three assists.

United, who have lost five of their last six games, sit 14th in the Premier League table, seven points above the relegation places.
