Ohio tends to be a fairly overlooked state, but it’s home to some particularly beautiful nature reserves and state parks, including Hocking Hills State Park. Just an hour south of Columbus (one of our readers favorite big cities according to the 2024 Readers’ Choice Awards), this gorgeous stretch of land features picturesque gorges, beautiful waterfalls, and incredible hikes. Since Ohio experiences all four seasons fully, each change in weather brings about a beautiful new landscape—icy wonderlands in winter, colorful foliage in fall, blooming flowers in spring, and warm and sunny days in summer. As someone who grew up just outside of Ohio’s only national park (Cuyahoga Valley), I’ve spent quite a bit of time hiking and camping throughout the state.
While state parks are often smaller than national parks, they can sometimes be more accessible and are less likely to be overrun with tourists than, say, Yellowstone. Since parts of Hocking Hills are fairly remote, finding a place to bed down at night can be a bit difficult. Here, we’ve put together a list of the best places to stay in and around the area. Whether you’re looking for a massive cabin for the whole family or a simple studio for two, these are the best cabins, Airbnbs, inns, and hotels near Hocking Hills State Park.
