Fabian Schar, Kieran Trippier and Nick Pope are set to hand Newcastle United a triple injury boost, with all three expected to be available for Saturday’s trip to Everton.
Alexander Isak, however, is ruled out of the match, as was expected given he was not included in Sweden’s squad for the upcoming international break due to his ongoing toe injury.
Isak and Callum Wilson, who has not played yet this season due to back and hamstring problems, are on course to return against Brighton & Hove Albion at St James’ Park immediately after the two-break Premier League break.
Schar was forced off during the 1-0 victory over Wimbledon on Tuesday with an ankle injury, while Trippier missed the game with a muscular problem and Pope sat it out due to a swollen knee.
“They should be OK,” Howe said of the trio.
Martin Dubravka, meanwhile, is a doubt after being replaced at half-time against Wimbledon with a knee injury.
“Martin took a nasty whack to his knee,” Howe said. “He had a scan which showed just bruising hopefully. Whether he’s fit for this game or not, I’m not sure. But it won’t be a serious injury.”
With Isak and Wilson unavailable, Anthony Gordon is set to deputise as a centre-forward once again as he returns to Goodison Park to face his former club.
“No, unfortunately he won’t make the game,” Howe said of Isak. “We hope he’ll be back with Callum for the game after the international break. That’s the plan at the moment.”
Newcastle will return to Premier League action after the international break with a home game against Brighton & Hove Albion on October 19.
