After dropping a third straight game, the New Orleans Saints could be dealing with another potential loss — this one regarding their quarterback. Derek Carr, who exited in the fourth quarter of Monday’s matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs with an oblique injury, said after the game he’d have an MRI on Tuesday and “we’ll figure it out.”
“Not good,” he responded when asked how he felt following the injury.
Regarding his status for the Saints’ game Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Carr said, “You know me, I’m going to do anything I can to be there.”
The severity of the injury — and its possible impact on the Davante Adams sweepstakes — remains to be seen. The Saints (2-3) are one of the teams in the mix for Adams, the Las Vegas Raiders’ star wide receiver who requested a trade last week. Carr and Adams have a close relationship from their time with the Raiders and at Fresno State, and Adams is close with Saints wide receivers coach Keith Williams.

After starting their season 2-0, the Saints’ latest three losses have dropped them to third in the NFC South behind the Atlanta Falcons (3-2) and Buccaneers (3-2).
Even with Carr healthy for most of Monday’s game, the Saints struggled, as Carr went 18-of-28 passing for 165 yards with two TDs and an interception.
Carr suffered the injury with seven minutes left in the game after taking a hit in the pocket on a failed fourth-down throw. He went to the locker room and the Saints labeled him as questionable to return, but he never did. Backup Jake Haener closed out the 26-13 loss.
Carr told reporters that the injury occurred on a throw rather than any particular hit.
“I would have done anything to stay out there and keep fighting, but I just, I couldn’t,” Carr said. “So (it) sucks.”
